When to replace boards

If the framing underneath is solid, swapping the surface boards is the most cost-effective fix. Replace boards when you see:

  • Cracks, splits or splinters that catch bare feet
  • Cupping, warping or boards that have gone soft
  • Widespread graying or surface rot on the decking only
  • A handful of damaged boards dragging down an otherwise good deck

Match or upgrade

We can source matching wood, or use the project as a chance to switch to composite (Trex, TimberTech) or PVC for near-zero maintenance — a great fit for NJ winters. Not sure which? Compare options in our decking materials guide, or see our composite decking service.
